OLD SANDSTONE COLUMN
crowned with a cast iron cross located on a little hill near LIPNICA, southern Poland, marks the place where, as tradition says, the holy Simon stopped for the last time and looked at his parents’ house when he was leaving his town Lipnica. I did this little painting after a sketch from last year, when we visited this wonderful place.

AHU TONGARIKI – EASTER ISLAND
Small painting of the maybe most spectacular Ahu on Easter Island, that I had the honour to visit myself back in 2008. Ahus are the platforms the famous Easter Island statues are placed on. The name of this Ahu means “Southern King” (tong = south, ariki = king). It is 22m long and consists of 16 statues (Moais). In 1960 a tsunami hit the structure and catapulted the statues up to 600m away from the platform. It was reconstructed afterwards, but one statue is still laying on its back where it stranded 1960, and that is why there are only 15 standing statues today.

CARROWMORE DOLMEN
Megalithic dolmen in county Sligo, Ireland. According to archeologists this amazing dolmen is at least 6,000 years old. It’s hard to imagine, how old this actually is, when you start thinking about it! This painting is done from a sketch I did during an Ireland trip some years ago. A magic place!

RUSSIAN LAKE
In the year 2000 I was at this lake, that is hidden deep in the Russian forest in the Vladimirskaya oblast, south-east of the town of Petushki. We stayed the night in the cabin of an old man, who lived at the lake since 1945. A place of silence and peace, that inspired me to do this painting.

CARGO SHIP DIMITRIOS
wrecked and abandoned on Valtaki Beach, Laconia, Greece in 1981. There are many rumors about the ships origin and how it got stranded on the beach. I saw it during a road trip in Greece in 1985 and took a black and white foto, which I used as a reference for this painting. The ship is still laying at that beach (2023) and keeps on falling apart.
